This summer, Breakthrough was back in full swing, bringing students and Teaching Fellows together for learning, growth, and connection. Across the country, our programs helped middle school students regain academic momentum and gave college students the chance to grow as educators and mentors. In total, we served 9,200 students and 1,073 Teaching Fellows across 25 affiliates.

Breakthrough students are making significant academic strides. 80% grew or maintained their reading skills, up from 78% last year, and 74% maintained or improved their math skills. These gains are even more remarkable when you consider that most students fall behind over the summer months.

Breakthrough is also developing the next generation of education leaders. Teaching Fellows this summer represented 301 colleges nationwide, with more returning for a second summer. 94% said the Fellowship helped them understand their strengths as teachers, 88% reported increased interest in working with young people, and 96% would recommend Breakthrough to a friend pursuing a career in education.

Across the country, affiliates are turning local impact into a national movement. At Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano, former students return as Teaching Fellows, Fellows step into leadership, and new generations of students continue to dream bigger – all because of the community that shaped them. Learn more about how Breakthrough SJC is bringing the Breakthrough mission full circle and inspiring future leaders to thrive.

We are leaving this Breakthrough summer feeling encouraged by the growth of students and Teaching Fellows alike. More than ever, Breakthrough is a summer that can change everything.
