It was a full and inspiring week in Houston for the Breakthrough community.
Program leaders from across the country gathered for Spring Training, preparing for the summer ahead and deepening their practice as they get ready to train our Instructional Coaches and Teaching Fellows. National staff led affiliates through Breakthrough Instructional Trainings (BITs)—workshops, tools, and resources designed to equip Teaching Fellows with the core skills they need to succeed in the classroom. Through BITs, Fellows learn how to lead student-centered instruction, deliver academically rigorous lessons, build engaging classrooms, use data to guide their teaching, and commit to continuous learning throughout their careers.
Teaching is a profession—like medicine or law. It requires preparation, practice, and feedback, and BITs are designed to provide exactly that.
At the end of the week, Breakthrough National Trustees joined us for a retreat and board meeting. Together, we explored the evolving landscape of postsecondary education, heard insights from Houston educators and experts, and sharpened how we champion Breakthrough’s mission through our messaging and outreach. The board also focused on the big questions ahead—sustainability, meeting this moment in education, and deepening our impact for students and communities.
With summer just around the corner, the Breakthrough community is preparing for another season of learning and opportunity.
