What to Expect
Breakthrough is a multi-year program that begins in middle school and supports students through high school—helping you succeed academically, grow personally, and prepare for college and beyond.
Middle School
Starting in rising 7th grade, students participate in six-week summer programs filled with hands-on, academically challenging coursework, led by near-peer Teaching Fellows. You’ll sharpen your academic skills while building confidence and having fun along the way.
High School
As you move into high school, you’ll continue to receive support through tutoring, mentoring, workshops, and college guidance. Breakthrough helps you develop the habits, mindsets, and knowledge needed to excel in high school and successfully navigate the path to college.
College Success
Our affiliates work closely with students and families to ensure that applying to and attending college is within reach—offering everything from admissions guidance to scholarship support. And once students are enrolled, we help them navigate college life and persist through to graduation.
At Breakthrough, you’ll push yourself in new ways—and discover what you’re capable of achieving. And you won’t be doing it alone: you’ll have a supportive community walking alongside you every step of the way.

Many Breakthrough students will be the first in their families to graduate from college. They choose summers at Breakthrough filled with rigorous academics (and fun!) to stay motivated and moving towards their goals. While many of their peers lose ground during the summer, Breakthrough students maintain or improve their reading and math skills. They not only avoid summer learning loss—they grow, thrive, and gain momentum for the school year ahead.
