We are grateful to announce the approval of our AmeriCorps State and National grant for summer 2027, which will provide more than $1 million in support for Teaching Fellows across participating affiliates. This grant will serve seven affiliates–Greater Boston, Denver, Louisville, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Sacramento, and San Juan Capistrano–in covering up to 195 AmeriCorps members as Teaching Fellows.
This investment is critical for Breakthrough, strengthening our ability to recruit and support aspiring educators to support students across the country. The grant positions us to support affiliates, increase Teaching Fellow stipends, and secure a substantial government funding base for long-term sustainability. It also affords AmeriCorps benefits to Teaching Fellows at these seven affiliates, including the aforementioned increased stipend, the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, and the prestige of being an AmeriCorps member.
AmeriCorps State and National is a federal-state partnership that serves more than 200,000 people each year. For more than 30 years, this program has connected volunteers with nonprofit, faith-based, and community organizations. These organizations then recruit, train, and supervise AmeriCorps members to provide services in housing, education, disaster services, health, environmental stewardship, and economic opportunity.
