This year’s National Conference, held October 16-17, at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Oh., provided a powerful space for over 100 affiliate and national staff to foster meaningful connections and collaboration. The historic venue served as a poignant reminder of the power of collective action, setting the tone for a conference focused on reflection, learning, and collaboration.

Vince Marigna, National CEO, kicked off the conference celebrating Breakthrough’s collective impact this past year and shared how the Breakthrough network can build momentum together for lasting impact.  Sessions throughout the two days focused on advancing best practices for college success and exploring strategies to expand our Teaching Fellowship supports, as well as how we build capacity needed to grow and sustain a thriving collaborative. An interactive keynote on day two by Colleen Keating-Crawford from Teach For America’s Reinvention Lab encouraged us to examine how we can better support students as they transition from high school to adulthood.

Beyond the sessions, the conference was an opportunity for affiliates to connect, listen and learn from one another, as we continue our work together to increase educational access and opportunities for young people to thrive. The conference concluded with our annual Breakthrough Collabies awards, which recognize the outstanding achievements of affiliate staff and underscoring the importance of community and shared success.

“Breakthrough is a diverse collaborative in every way: serving diverse students and Teaching Fellows, in unique communities with varying perspectives, assets, and opportunities,” said Vince Marigna, National CEO. “Each affiliate brings its own unique history and strengths, united by a shared commitment to the same mission and passion to serve our students.”

As we move forward, the spirit of this year’s conference, relationships built, insights gained, and strategies developed will drive us forward to create a strong future for our students and aspiring educators alike. We are shaping the future of education and breaking through together!
