This summer has been a time of growth and achievement, with thousands of students across the Collaborative forming meaningful relationships and engaging in transformative academic experiences. One particular affiliate, Breakthrough at Kent Denver, celebrated their 30th summer by engaging in 25 days of academic instruction, diving deep into core subjects, electives, and community building activities.
In the classroom, students explored subjects in writing, reading, and math. But the learning didn’t stop there. Students also had the option to engage in a variety of electives, including Cell Biology, Chicano Studies, Computer Programming, and Art. By offering these diverse courses, Breakthrough at Kent Denver provided opportunities for students to pursue their interests while gaining valuable knowledge and skills.
This summer was about more than just academics; it was also about building community. Breakthrough students from over 70 Denver and Englewood Public Schools came together to form new friendships and relationships with their teachers and peers. The supportive environment on campus was designed to foster collaboration and mutual respect, with the hope that students will carry these positive experiences back to their home schools.
A particularly special moment took place this summer when Breakthrough seniors joined the community for a ceremony celebrating their accomplishments. Their presence not only inspired younger students but also underscored the long-term impact of the Breakthrough experience. Incredibly, 95% of Breakthrough at Kent Denver recent graduates are now pursuing a college degree—a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students, educators, and supporters.
As we reflect on the successes of this summer, we are excited to continue sharing stories of impact from across our affiliates. Together, we are creating a movement of college-ready students and future education leaders, committed to driving positive change in their communities.
